Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and a major cause of disability for both men and women in the U.S. It claims more lives each year than the next three leading causes of death combined. For twenty percent of heart attack victims, the first symptom is the last: sudden death. If you have had a loved one face such a health crisis, it’s frightening, especially when it’s a person who seems to be the picture of fitness. Inevitably, we ask, could it happen to me?
At SHAPE Medical Center, we create a personalized program for your heart health. Our focus is heart attack prevention, stroke prevention, and overall well-being and quality of life. We practice the latest techniques to help predict and prevent the occurrence of heart attacks, strokes, and Type 2 Diabetes. Many people who have had heart attacks and strokes are not given the tools to prevent another one. We are here to help those people, and also to identify people at risk and prevent them from having their first event.
Interventions such as stents and bypass surgery may save lives in the setting of an acute heart attack but fail to treat the root cause of the disease. This explains why many individuals who undergo these procedures often need repeat intervention, or they will go on to suffer a heart attack or stroke.
How are we different?
We go beyond standard of care and practice optimal private care, taking time to determine if you are at risk for a heart attack or stroke. Your initial office visit may include a physical exam, carotid artery scan, blood draw for an advanced lipid profile, review of health history, family history, risk factors, and lifestyle. If there is disease present, we will work in partnership with you to create a customized treatment plan.
We are not a replacement for your primary care provider, but we want to work with your provider to help you achieve optimal cardiovascular health.

Heart Health Assessment

At SHAPE Medical Center, we perform advanced testing to identify if you have vascular disease, and if there is inflammation in your arteries. This type of assessment allows us to determine the cause of the disease, and with this information, we create an individualized and optimal treatment plan. From there we can evaluate the effectiveness of prescribed therapy.
Our Heart Health Assessment Includes:

  • A thorough review of your health history, including family history
  • Risk factors assessment
  • Directed physical exam
  • Advanced lipid and inflammation testing
  • SHAPEscan, or carotid IMT, assesses “the state of your arteries”. This is a painless, 10 minute ultrasound exam of the arteries in your neck, which correlate well with your coronary arteries.
  • Nutrition and lifestyle analysis

With early testing and detection, we can slow the progression of, and in some cases, even reverse cardiovascular disease.
