Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive resurfacing treatment that removes the stratum corneum– the topmost layer of your skin– to reveal the more supple and vibrant skin beneath.  Microdermabrasion cleanses the pores and aids in balancing oil production while stimulating collagen and evening out your skin’s texture and tone. Microdermabrasion can smooth your skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation, and can also help to reduce acne conditions.

By enhancing your skin’s absorptive abilities, microdermabrasion maximizes the beneficial effects of other professional treatments like chemical peels, clinical facials and your homecare products.  Microdermabrasion, therefore, is a great stand alone treatment as well as an excellent complement to other types of treatments to maximize skin rejuvenation.

Where can it be used?
Microdermabrasion can be used almost anywhere, but is generally done on the face, neck, décolleté, back, and hands.

What does the treatment consist of?
At SHAPE Medical Center, we want your experience to be effective, yet relaxing.  Your microdermabrasion treatment begins with a professional skin analysis, followed by a deep cleanse and prep of the skin; the appropriate diamond tip is selected per your skin type.  Gentle, yet effective crystal-free exfoliation occurs as the wand is drawn across the skin. The vacuum levels and diamond chip and wand size will be adjusted according to the areas treated. There is no downtime after microdermabrasion treatments.  Your skin may appear slightly pink after your treatment, but you will be able to resume normal activities.

How often should I have a microdermabrasion treatment?
The length of the treatments and number of treatments depends on your individual skin type and condition.  In order to maintain the benefits of microdermabrasion, you may elect to have a series of treatments or alternate your treatments with professional chemical peels.
