Juvederm and Radiesse

Juvederm/Juvederm Plus/Belotero Hyaluronic acid (HA) implants are injectable filler materials that last longer than collagen-type fillers.  They are made of hyaluronic acid gel generated by streptococcus species of bacteria that is chemically crosslinked.  It is indicated for mid-to-deep dermal implantation for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Juvederm/Juvederm Plus/Belotero Hyaluronic acid (HA) implants do not require skin testing and has been shown to last 6 to 9 months and possibly up to a year.  The procedure is done as an outpatient office visit.  Local anesthesia may be used in the area or areas treated and may be used in combination with topical anesthesia.  Most people experience mild swelling and slight redness after the procedure, but this normally resolves within 24 to 48 hours.  There is the possibility of mild bruising occurring with injectable implants, but if it does occur, it can be concealed with makeup and normally resolves within a few days.

Radiesse is another injectable filler material that lasts longer than collagen-type fillers.  Radiesse is made from the same mineral found in your bone and teeth, but processed into a cream like substance.  It can be used to fill in smile lines, acne scars, chin, lip and cheek enhancement, and corners of the mouth.

Radiesse does not require skin testing and has been shown to last 1 to 2 years.  The procedure is done as an out-patient office visit.  Local anesthesia is commonly used prior to injecting Radiesse to enhance comfort and to aid in minimizing bruising.  Most people experience mild swelling and slight redness after the procedure, but this normally resolves within 24 to 48 hours.  There is the possibility of mild bruising occurring with Radiesse implants, but if it does occur, it can be concealed with makeup and normally resolves within a few days.

In some patients, Radiesse and Juvederm or Belotero are injected into the treatment areas to enhance the filling effect.  This is called the liquid lift.  With this treatment different amounts of filler are injected into specific areas to aid in lifting the face to minimize the appearance of lines and aging.  This treatment is done at times in stages to correct and enhance as needed.  It is less invasive then surgery, but does require maintenance over time to maintain the correction.

Your final result and maximum cosmetic facial enhancement will occur immediately with Radiesse or Juvederm or Belotero.  However, over time with gravity, sun exposure, and normal aging, your wrinkles, textural abnormalities, and lip size will partially reappear. Reabsorption of the filler/s will occur over the months that follow treatment, but is gradual and occurs slowly over time.  You may elect to re-treat for maintenance.  In most instances, it is recommended that you have maintenance every 6 to 12 months.

Facial structure is different from one side of the face to the other.  Your eyebrows, cheeks and lips are different heights, and sizes.   Because all human beings have individual differences, different facial wrinkles, blemishes, and skin types can respond differently to the same treatments.  Your response may be subject to variation, but on average the majority of patients who have undergone treatment report a noticeable and significant improvement in the appearance, quality, quantity and youthful vitality of their skin.
